Tamworth city and region has 72 youth organisations that focus on everything from sports to academic and social groups.
Organisations are also available to provide support, guidance and assistance. There are over 15,300 young people in Tamworth, and the 0-17 year’s age group makes up over 26% of the population.
There are over 20 child care centres, pre-schools and long day care, after-school care, family and occasional care centres operating and offering high quality services and at least 12 separate playgroups.
The city has skate parks, playgrounds, open space, extensive sporting facilities that support both indoor and outdoor activities. The local PCYC and “The Youthie” host activities and competitions where kids can lose themselves in lots of fun and games or more serious pursuits.
Other educational facilities cater for youth training in everything from music to literature and from drama to dancing. Other services include the Lake Keepit recreational camp and miniature train rides. After school activities such as gymnastics, karate, dancing and tutoring, Scouts and Girl Guides are also available.
The council operates Year Round Care, which is a city-based before-school, after-school and vacation care program Mondays to Fridays and during school holidays.
